Non profits and charities are making the switch to full color signs. A tradition portable sign with changeable letters or steel signs with magnetic letters are the signs of the past and fast being replaced with signs that use a printed full colour graphic.

Edmonton has a program in place for charities, schools, not for profits, sports groups and community leagues to advertise on city land. This program offers each organization 8 city permits per calendar year and each permit if valid for 14 days. There are close to 200 sites across the city and they are all in very good locations with lots of drive by traffic. Edmonton road right of way allows signage for organizations that would find it very hard to advertise via the radio and/or newspaper as these types of advertising are very expensive and are very limited in their scope as they do not allow for targeted advertising to a very specific part of town or community.
